Recently, scammers have been taking advantage of borrowers. Fraudulent firms charge borrowers fees – often $1000 or more – for “negotiating†with banks to prevent foreclosure. Or the insurer could choose to drop your coverage. And the information is shared with other insurance companies, so you could have trouble finding a new insurer.
