Shrinking Homes
It seems the McMansion is on its way out – according to the National Association of HomeBuilders, the average size of new, single family homes across the nation has shrunk to an average of 2438 square feet. The square footage of newly built homes continues to drop, and 89% of builders are planning smaller homes than in the past.
Buyers are more aware of their impact on the environment as well as maintenance costs, and are considering smaller homes as a result. This trend could move into the sale of older real estate as well. Bennington area homes built before 1980 average 1750 square feet or less. Home sellers can optimize this trend by showcasing storage options, environmentally-friendly materials and Star-Energy products that accompany the sale.
